BPI Written Exam - Section 2 Buildings and Their Systems
The impact of building orientation impacts:
A home with southern and western exposure will have a much greater heating and cooling load than a home with more northern and eastern exposure. As energy auditors of existing homes, we can make recommendations to mitigate the effects of building orientation with shading from awnings, screens and landscaping. Improper landscape drainage and grading can cause wood rot, mold and mildew if not fixed. Landscaping can also be used to help shade exterior walls, greatly reducing the heat gain into a home in the summer and along exposed windows. Next Section2a. Building Components
